Vice President Kamala Harris has announced a series of bold initiatives aimed at securing the support of Black voters, particularly Black men, in the upcoming presidential election.
As part of her “Opportunity Economy” pledge, Harris is committed to legalizing recreational marijuana, protecting cryptocurrency assets, and offering 1 million fully forgivable loans to Black entrepreneurs.
These efforts come as polls indicate some Black men are either leaning toward former President Donald Trump or considering not voting at all.

Harris and her campaign recognize the importance of engaging this critical voter base, and they are unveiling several initiatives designed to empower Black Americans and strengthen economic opportunities within their communities.

Key Initiatives in Harris’ Plan:
- Legalizing Recreational Marijuana: Harris plans to legalize recreational marijuana and ensure that Black Americans can thrive in the cannabis industry, creating new pathways for economic success.
- 1 Million Forgivable Loans: The Vice President aims to provide 1 million fully forgivable loans of up to $20,000 for Black entrepreneurs and other aspiring business owners. These loans are intended to fuel the growth of small businesses and close the racial wealth gap.
- Regulating Cryptocurrency: Harris has pledged to establish clear regulations for cryptocurrency and digital assets, recognizing that over 20% of Black Americans have invested in these assets. This plan would provide better protections for their investments.
- Investing in Black Male Teachers and Leadership Training: Harris will increase investment in Black male educators, promote registered apprenticeships, and fund leadership and mentorship programs, including initiatives like My Brother’s Keeper, to foster career growth and leadership in Black communities.
- National Health Equity Initiative for Black Men: Harris will also launch a National Health Equity Initiative aimed at addressing key health disparities faced by Black men, such as sickle cell disease, diabetes, mental health issues, and prostate cancer. This initiative seeks to reduce the disproportionate burden of these conditions on Black communities.
Harris will introduce these initiatives in Erie, Pennsylvania, and later meet with Black men and entrepreneurs in Detroit, as part of a strategic effort to boost turnout and enthusiasm among Black voters.
On Tuesday, she is scheduled to participate in a town hall moderated by Charlamagne tha God, the influential Black radio host known for candid conversations with political figures.

A Tense Battle for Black Male Support
As Harris and her campaign ramp up efforts to engage Black men, former President Trump has also made inroads with this demographic.
A significant portion of Black male voters has shown an openness to either supporting Trump or abstaining from voting entirely. This trend presents a potential challenge for Harris in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive election.
In response to these developments, former President Barack Obama recently weighed in, addressing the decline in voter enthusiasm for Harris compared to his own historic 2008 campaign.
Obama suggested that some of this reluctance might stem from discomfort with the prospect of a woman president, a remark that has stirred controversy.
The Black Men for Trump Advisory Board pushed back on Obama’s comments, calling them “deeply insulting.” The board emphasized that Black voters are not monolithic and should not be expected to support a candidate solely based on shared racial identity.
They also criticized Harris’ past policies, suggesting she has not always been a champion for Black communities.

Harris’ Final Push
With the election drawing near, Harris is focusing on outreach specifically aimed at Black men. Her campaign is collaborating with influential Black male leaders and engaging Black business owners to encourage voter participation and build support.
Former Rep. Cedric Richmond, a co-chair of Harris’ campaign, reinforced this commitment, explaining that the “Opportunity Economy” is designed to help Black men thrive by giving them the tools to build wealth, buy homes, and support their families.
Harris’ efforts in the final stretch of the election will be critical as she seeks to consolidate support among Black voters, a group that could prove pivotal in determining the outcome of the race.
